Healthy Lifestyle

Ever wonder why a lot of people are still having health problems in this modern world of ours? The problem comes from our environment - pollution, processed food and unhealthy lifestyle. We breathe in cigarette smoke, diesel fumes, and haze from forest burning; eat food loaded with sodium, preservatives, sweeteners, colorings. With pubs, bars and nightclubs opening up, many people are spending their time drinking and smoking the nights away.

Unhealthy food and unhealthy lifestyle can induced our body to produce more oxidants, also known as free radicals. These free radicals can damage our cells and cause it to turn cancerous if left uncheck. Our organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys and liver will have to work extra hard to get rid of the oxidants in our body. If not eliminated, our immune system will not function well and render us susceptible to illnesses such as asthma, heart disease, kidney failure, skin allergies, menstrual disorders, fertility problems, etc

Action on our part is required to help our body stay healthy. We can take antioxidant supplements, having a personal workout program or adhering to a strict diet. Taking a step at a time will make it easier to follow through. The following pointers serve as a simple first step guide to a healthier life.

Fluid - Our body needs to have enough fluid to flush out the toxins. Drinking water is good for us. If plain water is just too difficult to swallow, fresh fruit juices can be added to our daily quota of fluids. Recent research has indicated that tea and coffee might be beneficial to us too due to the antioxidant properties in them.

Exercise - Exercise has long been advocated for a healthy life. No excuse if a gym is not within reach. Walking is one of the easiest ways to exercise. Try not to drive if the destination is within walking distance.

Sleep - It has been established that our body rejuvenates itself when we are sleeping. Our body's self-healing process actually takes place while we are asleep. Insufficient sleep will deprive our body from getting the rest it requires after a day's activities. Sleep well and we will have more stamina and energy to take on the new day.

Food - Our body needs nutrients to build our heart muscles, strengthen our liver, lungs, kidneys and even our skin, nails and hair. Choose colourful veggies and fruits as they contain more antioxidants. Cut down on sugar and food high in fat. Try to have a balanced meal even if eat out.

To a healthy and fun-filled life!
